You're probably reading this because someone told you Packetville is a great place for your students to learn about the Internet. It is, but it's more than that. In Packetville students jump into the Internet to solve problems facing people throughout the world. They have fun learning how the Internet works, how technology can be used to help others, and how a career in IT/engineering can become a goal for their future.
See for yourself. Here's the way to Packetville:

First, take a look at Packetville's teacher resources.
- Log onto Packetville’s main page
- Select Educators. If you haven't registered, follow the directions for registration. This will give you access to all Packetville areas: Educators, Parents, Club Advisors, Hacker Busters, and Packet Riders.
- Click on Packer Riders Instructional Materials if you are working with students ages 8-11 or Hacker Busters Instructional Materials if you are working with ages 12-14.
- Look under the title Instructors and select ISTE Standards. This is a list of the technology standards of the International Society for Technology in Education that are covered in the Packetville materials.
- Click on Lessons and Units. Let's take a look at one of the lessons. If you are in Packet Riders, select Instant Intro to Networking; if in Hacker Busters, select Router Lesson. Notice that the lessons and materials can be downloaded in pdf format. In the lessons you'll find objectives, standards, worksheets, links, games, teacher directions, etc.
- Now you have an idea of what the lessons include, but there are additional resources waiting for you. In the column on the left, choose either Packet or Hacker Busters Instructional Materials. Then under Instructors, select Educator Resources. Click on Characters for the digital images of the Packetville cast and think about how your students can use these images in projects. Try Club Tool Kit to see materials you might want to use for a class club. If you have time, check out some of the other links under Educator Resources. Why not try a few lines from the Wildly Wireless Melodrama or the Peter Packet Lyrics?
Now, let's have some fun in Packetville's student sections.
- Click on Packet Riders or Hacker Busters at the top of the web page.
- Select Game and then Play under Episode II, Penny's Search.
- Select Beginner (or Advanced, if you are pretty good at video games).
- Because we'll only have time for part of a game today, click Skip to skip forward until you come to Mission Log. Then select Moscow, Russia, and continue until you complete the Russian mission. You'll see the Mission Log page again when you are finished. Close the game by clicking the little "x" in the top left corner of the screen. This will take you back to the game page.
- Select Packet Riders or Hacker Busters at the top of the page.
- Click on Activities. Test your Internet IQ. Then go on to try one or two of the other activities. If you are in Packet Riders, check out the Stickers or Comic Books. In Hacker Busters, try Finding Homes for Animals or one of the music activities.
